Supply chain joint venture launched

Friday, 09/7/2010 05:35
SeaEnergy Renewables (SERL) has entered into a joint venture with a Chinese ship builder to produce turbine jacket foundations.

It is hoped that the supply chain joint venture with the Nantong COSCO Ship Steel Structure Company will boost the Scottish offshore windfarm developer's attractiveness to buyers.

Speaking to BusinessGreen, SERL's chief executive Joel Staadecker said that the foundation components will be manufactured in China to reduce costs and will then be assembled in the UK, helping create new jobs.

The venture represents SERL's first move into the marine energy supply chain, and it is hoped it could help boost its appeal to buyers.

It was put up for sale several weeks ago when its owner SeaEnergy said that it could not raise the finance needed to construct some windfarms in Scottish waters.

Last week, RenewableUK said that all parties involved in the offshore wind industry should work together to create an "indigenous UK supply chain".
