Output from the technology sector may become more practical and constructive thanks to the economic downturn.
That is the opinion of Tudor Aw, a technology partner at KPMG, who suggested at the Intellect Annual Regent Conference 2009 that solutions will be found to problems while people's attentions are focused on the negative.
"One thing we are going to see is enormous rationalisation amongst companies," Mr Aw said.
"What will happen as a function of that is you'll get a lot clearer, far more focused companies that exist and can drive through technology that's useful, productive and relatively profitable for everyone concerned."
Such issues may be highly beneficial to a companies supply chain, as it could cut costs as well as making transportation, assembly etc more efficient.
According to Regent Corporate Finance Services, there were 2,941 acquisitions involving European technology companies in 2008, a decline of nine per cent on 2007.
