Product testing in the toy making industry needs to be part of a quality process embedded into the supply chain.
A new EU report has represented the results of a five-month study into product safety measures in the toy supply chain.
Named Evaluating Business Safety Measures in the Toy Supply Chain, the report was presented in Brussels yesterday (Thursday) and revealed that smaller European importers and Chinese manufacturers could be a weak link with regards to safety.
But the expertise needed to enforce good practice and the role of testing laboratories also needed to be increased.
Meglena Kuneva, European consumer affairs commissioner, said that faults in the supply chains allowed too many faulty goods onto the market.
"There are recommendations addressed to all the actors involved in the supply chain. These will be analysed in detail by the Commission and discussed with each of the relevant stakeholder groups in the coming months to assess how to move forwards," she explained.
According to reports from Director of Finance Online, having a strong quality and safety culture is necessary to ensure attention to detail and safety issues are followed.
