UPM paper to renew supply chain

Monday, 27/4/2009 03:22
UPM Paper Business Group is to renew its paper business supply chain to better serve its current business needs, it has announced.

As such, UPM will restructure supply chain operations in Northern and Central Europe, with an additional centre built in Finland and two regional centres in Germany.

Bernd Eikens, senior vice president of supply chain at UPM, said that it would enable the company to "further develop" ways of working.

"We will be able to increase the efficiency and profitability of our operations. Through more efficient operations we will also be able to further improve our customer service."

However, it is thought that the move will lead to the loss of 100 jobs across Europe.

UPM has production facilities in 14 countries and employs 25,000 people worldwide.

Earlier this month, UPM's paper mill in Shotton, North Wales, was recognised by the Queen as being one of the UK's most sustainable businesses.
