Clothing retailer Urban Outfitters has reduced its labour costs and improved its operation by improving its supply chain.
The implementation of a warehouse management system has led to a 66 per cent reduction in the time it takes the firm to receive stock (down from three days to less than 24 hours), while there has also been an 80 per cent decrease in invoice processes per year.
It introduced the technology to improve supply chain visibility and the company now hopes it will boost its growth in Europe.
"We needed the capacity to handle high volumes, increase process efficiency, improve supply chain visibility and obtain meaningful performance measures," said Ken McKinney, executive director of logistics at Urban Outfitters.
The new measures also helped the firm to analyse the performance of its supply chain in order to target areas that needed improving.
Established in 1970, Urban Outfitters has stores in several countries including the UK, US, Belgium, and Germany.
