The growth of the internet has changed the way that companies operate and caused a rise in the importance of
supply chain warehouse design, an expert has suggested.
Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, has argued that while the internet has led to a rise in jobs many of these are in the logistics of delivery and stock.
He said that the way that the country does business is shifting, as people turn from the high street to the internet, which puts the role of
logistics warehouse design in centre stage.
"People like Ocado and the supermarkets employ people in huge warehouses to go [and] turn somebody's online order into an actual delivery," Mr Flaxton explained.
Matthew Hopkinson, director at the Local Data Company, recently highlighted another major shift in
supply chain transport planning as retailers increasingly focus on sites outside of town centres and avoid placing stores on the high street.
