Nearly two-thirds of transportation and logistics firms are streamlining their processes thanks to the use of mapping technology, a new survey has found.

Research conducted by Vanson Bourne and Google shows that 63 per cent of companies are currently utilising the technology for geographical information and route planning.

Of that number some 67 per cent of respondents said that they are experiencing better engagement with their customers, 46 per cent said the technology had improved their overall productivity and the same percentage said it had helped to drive down their costs.

Despite the success offered, the survey also found that 37 per cent of companies are yet to implement any kind of mapping capabilities.

Sanjay Patel, head of enterprise GEO EMEA at Google, told Fleetnews.co.uk: “Our research shows that those businesses who have not started using it are now on the back foot and should act quickly to ensure they can benefit from the mapping technology their competitors are already using.”
