The Netherlands may be part of the low countries but it's riding high on the list of European distribution point for UK logistics firms.
Indeed, Holland is ranked number one in the world for connections, according to DHL's latest Global Connectedness Index.
The index, which ranks 125 countries on how they combine connections with welfare, had Hong Kong top for the depth of its international connections and the United Kingdom number one in terms of the breadth of its connections.
"This research provides evidence that a connected world is a better world, in terms of global welfare and individual development. The free trade of products and services contributes significantly to global prosperity," said Roger Crook, chief executive officer, DHL Global Forwarding, Freight.
According to the 2011 index, the ten most connected countries globally are the Netherlands, Singapore, Ireland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Belgium, Hong Kong (China) and Malta.
DHL reported earlier this month they exports by British companies is growing but not at the rate previously predicted.
