The government has launched a new programme designed to fuel the growth of the logistics sector and other key industries in the UK.
As part of the plan from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, new National Skills Academies will be developed across five important sectors.
The centres will cover logistics, rail engineering, green building services, biotechnology and composites.
Funded by £12 million of public investment matched by the private sector, the academies will train more than 300,000 young workers over the next four years.
Business secretary Lord Mandelson said the new centres will create the best training for people to gain the skills required to boost their careers and drive the UK forward.
"We are investing in the industries where employers' need is greatest - tens of thousands of people working in these industries, the consumers they serve and the UK as a whole will see the benefit," he added.
Earlier this month, the Freight Transport Association called on the government to help boost the logistics sector by investing in UK transport infrastructure and revising the tax regime for commercial vehicles.
