A new £3.3 million project is aiming to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the dairy supply chain in Wales.

The Dairy Supply Chain Efficiencies Project, which has been backed by Welsh Assembly member Mick Bates, has received funding through the Dairy Supply Chain Efficiencies Project.

It is hoped that the scheme will assist workers involved at various stages along the supply chain to work together to identify more effective ways of operating and help Wales compete fully in a competitive marketplace.

Speaking to the Shropshire Star, Mr Bates said: "I warmly welcome this £3.3 million project to support the dairy sector in Wales and am delighted that the minister has recognised the need to take strong action to secure this key industry for the future."

He added that he hopes the scheme will be a "catalyst" for all sectors of the dairy chain to reevaluate their priorities.

The scheme was launched on July 1st by Wales' rural affairs minister Elin Jones, who said that the dairy industry is important to the social and environmental wellbeing of everyone in Wales.
