The UK's food supply chain is to come under intense scrutiny over the coming months as the government investigates how the food supply chain must remain strong in order to keep supplies reliable throughout the next four decades.
Michael Jack, the chairman of the Commons Committee which will investigate the supply chain, told the Western Morning News: "I think the government has woken up to the fact that the bit of Defra which didn't speak in a long time - the £70 billion food industry - is now centre stage.
"I would say that the government is now engaged with it, whereas three years ago it wasn't."
The investigation highlights the importance of supply chains in any industry.
Companies hoping to improve their own efficiency can often start by reassessing their supply chains.
A third-party supply chain company can offer the most up-to-date ideas on improving the efficiency of a supply chain.
Companies hoping to make their supply chains greener could also benefit from a supply chain management company, which could offer the best practice techniques to improve any supply chain.
