Industry training council Skills for Logistics (SfL) has been given a major boost by being told it will receive almost £4 million of funding over the next two years.
A recent announcement from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) said that some £61 million will be invested in projects to help jobs and growth.
And the SfL has been earmarked for around £3.95 million of that pot between April 2012 and March 2014.
SfL chief executive Dr Mick Jackson said that the news was proof that the government recognises the importance of logistics on the economy and the vital role it plays in helping firms manage their
transport planning effectively.
“Over the next two years we’ll work with the nine leading trade associations and employers, both large and small, to ensure that this funding is spent wisely to improve the professional image of logistics and the skills levels of the 2.2 million people who work within the industry," he stated.
John Hayes, minister for further education, skills and lifelong learning, announced over the summer that he would be investing funds into the development of the National Skills Academy for Logistics in the future.
