Supply chain professionals are preparing for the environment to become the biggest impactor on supply chain management in the near future, a new survey has found.
The Purchasing and Supply Release Employment Survey and Salary Guide spoke to employees of various industries, and reported that of those that work in the supply chain management field, close to 50 per cent of respondents cited the environment as likely to be the greatest influencer of supply chain management in the near future.
This is at odds to employers' views however, which generally saw the economic climate will be the biggest bringer of change within the next five years.
Yet the two are not mutually exclusive.
With oil becoming scarce and carbon credits a reality among some governments, the finance involved with international supply chains will be affected by ecological developments.
Similarly, with customers demanding greener goods, there will be consequences for the companies that use un-environmentally friendly methods to produce goods, even if the penalties do not come in the form of taxes or levies.
