Supply chain event to focus on eco logistics

An upcoming event will help to educate attendees about ecological developments in the international supply chain.

Next year's Dubai SITL event will feature an Eco Logistics segment on top of its usual itinerary, which will aim to address some of the key concerns being raised by members of the shipping industry.

Organisers Reed International Middle East have included the ecological element to promote and highlight factors including energy reduction, improved fuel consumption and corporate responsibility for optimising environmentally-friendly supply chains.

The 2011 event will also focus on elements including transport and logistics, logistics real estate, information systems and technologies plus logistics infrastructure.

According to Reed, the increased focus on greener issues is one which is "concerning all serious players" in the freight and logistics market as more customers demonstrate their insistence on more "ecologically justifiable" transport solutions.

It comes after Wal-Mart revealed it is among the multinational organisations which have vowed to "green" their supply chain by focusing on cutting unnecessary waste and transportation, which will affect its ASDA operation in the UK.
