A Supply Chain Digest report has highlighted five major trends it believes will be key to supply chain management this year.
The five trends are Improving Forecast Accuracy, Moving to SIOP, Redesigning Supply Chain Networks, New Approaches to Collaboration and Integrated Logistics.
Integrated logistics may be the most relevant trend in today's recession-hit environment and, thanks to increased visibility, it is becoming easier to implement.
Speaking to Supply Chain Digest, for example, John Sidell, a principal at TranSystems/ESYNC, said: "A majority of our clients are now looking to deploy WMS and TMS together, and thats a big change from the past."
With green issues competing with cost-cutting initiatives for the attention of supply chain executives there are a great deal of factors involved with managing a supply chain today.
As such, many small or medium-sized companies may benefit from outsourcing their supply chain management roles to a third-party company which already boasts years of experience.
