Supply chains 'to gain focus in 2009'

Monday, 22/12/2008 02:40
As 2008 draws to a close looking vastly different to the way in which it started, supply chains are expected to bear much of the changes in 2009, it has been predicted in a recent report.

Anand Iyer, vice president for global process consulting at i2 Technologies, said in a Modern Materials Handling report that: "At the highest level, we're seeing a shift in the balance of power between IT departments and the business today.

"By and large, that shift is away from what IT thinks is nice from an architecture standpoint and towards the business realities of coming up with solutions to get the job done."

Such rhetoric applies to supply chains too, which are now facing a potentially turbulent year ahead.

Supply chains are one of the greatest sources of cost-cutting potential, meaning that many companies will be reassessing the make-up of their supply chains.

To do this, it may be advisable to contact a third-party supply chain management company, which can assess a supply chain from outside a company in order to provide best practice solutions for the year ahead.
