The launch of the new Manufacturing Advisory Service could create an additional £1.5 billion in economic growth and create new demands for
supply chain transport planning.
Mark Prisk, business minister, has announced the launch of the service, which is targeting small and medium-sized manufacturers and aims to encourage the creation of 23,000 new jobs.
He said that the service will provide strategic and technical support, create new business improvements through global supply chains and create new apprenticeships.
Mr Prisk said: "Manufacturing contributes half of Britain's exports and has much higher productivity than the rest of the economy, so it is essential to our plans for growth."
He claimed that this has driven the government's decision to stimulate growth in the industrial base as part of measures to strengthen and balance the country's economy.
Earlier this month, the government announced a new package of measures designed to boost the manufacturing sector, including £170 million that will fund the creation of a new manufacturing technology and innovation centre from seven existing sites around the UK.
