Michelin receives supply chain award for efficiency

Tyre manufacturer Michelin has been awarded an industry gong for its work in boosting supply chain efficiency.

The organisation scooped the 2010 Corporate Achievement Award from the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) for potentially saving the global auto industry billions of pounds by eliminating waste and implementing streamlining processes.

J Scot Sharland, AIAG executive director, said that Michelin is helping the industry tackle "pain points" that one individual or corporation could not normally solve alone.

"They have earned special recognition for helping drive significant improvements in cost, quality and customer satisfaction across the automotive industry," he stated.

Scott Pajtas, innovation deployment director of the Original Equipment Americas division at Michelin, added that the company was the first firm to implement commercially and meet the B-11 standard for North America, and is committed to leading its ongoing development and refinement in the industry's supply chain.

It comes after Microsoft revealed it is moving its IT into the cloud in a bid to make its supply chain strategy more agile, adaptable and cost-effective.
