Network Rail is looking to broaden its supply chain, it has been reported, as the company aims to work with second tier contractors.
Speaking to nce.co.uk, Network Rail's director of infrastructure investment Simon Kirby announced that the company is looking to create a more competitive market in which to work.
"We are looking to broaden our supply chain in civils away from some of the major contractors to engage with second tier suppliers," he told the publication.
The announcement comes as it is negotiating its budget with the Office of Rail Regulation, and so it is a good time to reassess efficiencies within the company.
Companies hoping to increase their own efficiency can work with a third-party supply chain management firm, which can provide expert knowledge on how to improve the service of a supply chain.
A supply chain management company could also provide a fresh pair of eyes, which is often a simple yet effective means of achieving success.
