SABMiller announce HR chief as head of supply chain

London-based brewery SABMiller has made a change to its supply chain management by giving responsibility to the current human resources chief, it has been reported.

Tony van Kralingen has been announced as director of human resources and supply chain in a move that sees management of the two departments somewhat tied up.

The merger is an interesting take on supply chain management, which often benefits from an independent manager within a company.

"We are fortunate in having a high calibre candidate like van Kralingen to take up this challenging new position," said SABMiller's chief executive Graham Mackay.

"Tony's career began in human resources and he has extensive experience of the discipline from his subsequent functional and line management roles."

Supply chains have recently become one of the most transparent parts of a business, thanks to a consumer demand for both ethical and environmentally friendly goods, and the part supply chains have to play in the 'green stamp' offered to goods that make the grade.

SABMiller alone, the London-based arm of Miller South African Breweries, employs 70,000 workers across the globe, creating a substantial supply chain.
