Logistics firms and those involved in Scotland's supply chain will benefit from an increase in ferry services between Rosyth and Zeebrugge.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has given its backing to an announcement by DFDS Seaways, which has confirmed it is set to offer two dedicated freight vessels on the route.
In addition, the current three-day-a-week service will be increased to four.
Chris MacRae, the FTA's head of policy for Scotland, said the move will impact on supply chain strategies and be a step towards achieving carbon reduction targets.
"Achieving logistical and carbon efficiency in Scotland's supply chain and maintaining and improving Scotland's connectivity are key objectives of FTA and our Scottish Supply Chain Forum will be discussing the impacts of this development at its next meeting on September 16th," he explained.
The FTA recently confirmed it is launching the Transport Hub, which will allow members to outline their messages to political parties over the conference season.
