Slowing demand reported in electronics supply chains

Thursday, 30/10/2008 05:10
Market research firm Gartner has issued a warning concerning a weakening of demand in electronics supply chains, it has been reported.

Speaking to InformationWeek.com, Gartner analyst Bob Johnson explained that anecdotal evidence suggests that the demand for various kinds of electronics has dropped significantly below expectations given the time of year.

"We're seeing a general weakening of market conditions in the fourth quarter, which we generally expect to be stronger," Mr Johnson said.

"It looks like the electronics manufacturers have decided not to increase production, which they normally would do in anticipation of the holiday season."

For all sides of the supply chain, an economic downturn is costly and stressful but to protect a company from the financial fallout of a crisis an efficient and cost-effective supply chain is necessary.

Third party supply chain management companies will be able to provide management solutions to help a company improve the cost effectiveness of a supply chain.
