Audit of skill helps businesses run efficiently

Businesses looking to focus resources in a more effective manner should carry out an audit of staff skills.

That is the opinion of the Learning Skills Council (LSC) which has claimed that it can give a company a better understanding of their current work situation.

Paul Holme, regional skills director for the LSC, added: "More employers are investing in training and more learners are achieving higher levels of qualifications after leaving school.

"In the current economic climate, employers now need to, even more so, utilise the skills of their staff."

According to the Work Foundation, many employers are not adequately equipped to ride out the recession because they are not using workers' skills and talents efficiently.

In a survey of 2,011 workers, it was discovered that 40 per cent of people have more skills than their job requires, while 20 per cent of graduates are in a "low knowledge content" position.
