The aerospace industry is becoming concerned about the security of its supply chain, Reuters has reported.
The Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) said yesterday (April 16th) that the struggles faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) threaten the wider stability of the aerospace industry's supply chain.
ASD president Allan Cook told Reuters: "We believe public authorities need to pay particular attention to the situation we have now in our supply chains, where [SMEs] struggle to adjust to the worsening economic conditions."
The motor industry is facing a similar threat from closing suppliers, and many market watchers have commented that large buyers may need to provide help to smaller suppliers if they are to avoid delays to their own products.
Affecting nearly every sector in the UK, the recession has led to supply chains becoming an increasingly central part of planning for many companies.
Companies in the UK that wish to strengthen their own supply chains could opt to contract a third-party supply chain management company, offering their own management more time to concentrate on other areas of the business.
