Asia supply chain shift marks start of restructure

Ultra-low power RF specialist Nordic Semiconductor ASA has announced plans for its regional supply chain that is to be built in the Philippines.

In the face of rising production of the company's ultra-low power 2.4GHz transceiver, the company has responded by suggesting that their supply chains need to be "tightened up".

As such, the company's operations in the Philippines will consist of both of supply chain managers and, in future, test engineers to perform some of the company's back end work.

"As our ultra-low power 2.4GHz transceiver production volumes rise we recognise a need to further tighten communication links with our supply chain in Asia by creating a more local organizational structure," Ole-Fredrik Morken, the supply chain manager at Nordic said.

The move represents a major overhaul of supply chain focus, and could be a tactic which would benefit a wide range of companies.

The logistics of such a move however are something that would need expert precision, and the option of outsourcing such a job may be beneficial to a company considering such a shift.
