Businesses confident regarding prospects in 2009, research says

More than 80 per cent of chief finance officers (CFOs) in the UK have stated that they are looking toward 2009 with confidence, despite ongoing fears that a recession may hit in the first half of the year.

The combined strains of credit and cashflow problems have not been enough to dampen the spirits of most CFOs yet, it has been suggested, who have replied to research by saying they are confident that 2009 will bring with it positive as well as negative aspects.

The research, carried out by Deloitte, found that 84 per cent of CFOs were confident of finding opportunities this year, while two-thirds claimed this would be the ideal time for their companies to build a long-term presence.

Ian Stewart, UK economist and director at Deloitte, said: "While CFOs' priorities for 2009, of cash, confidence and costs, are pressing and immediate, management are also thinking and planning ahead."

The news is good for supply chain managers, who have to ensure a company faces as little exposure to failing suppliers as possible.

However, there are still threats to face this year and as such it will be wise for many companies to contact a supply chain management company in order to benefit from assistance in reducing exposure to risk.
