The chancellor will include a scheme to underwrite supply chain insurance in this month's budget, it has been claimed.
It has been suggested that Alistair Darling will be including a supply chain insurance scheme in his budget in a move which highlights the crucial nature of fully-working supply chains.
Acquiring insurance for credit has become increasingly difficult for some companies and particularly expensive for others, such as those in the construction sector, since the onset of the credit crunch.
However, an underwriting scheme should encourage insurers to once again take on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), allowing them to then continue working at a normal pace.
With supply chains so central to many companies and now in the public eye, SMEs may choose to find a third-party supply chain management company to oversee the organisation of a supply chain.
Outsourcing such a role could be particularly beneficial to those companies who need to contribute the extra management hours to projects other than supply chain management during the recession.
