Continued economic uncertainty is leading companies to keep prices for logistics under scrutiny, making cheap
supply chain transport planning especially important.
Simon Reed, managing director of Simarco, has told IFW Net that the growing competition between firms has led to great improvements in speed, reliability and cost for businesses.
He said: "The recognition that no one forwarder is expert in every single territory means there is an even greater need to shore-up distribution in what are perceived as weaker areas."
Mr Reed suggested that some companies are fragmenting their strategy and choosing different hauliers for each territory that they operate in.
He said that while large firms often use
logistics outsourcing in order to get experts to deal with this process, smaller companies are dealing with these challenges in-house.
Earlier this month, the International Air Cargo Association called on governments worldwide to liberalise the air cargo industry in order to boost growth, cut costs and increase the speed of logistics activities.
