Disabled people 'can play a key part in logistics transport planning'

There are real benefits from hiring disabled people as employees in a company's supply chain strategy, an expert has claimed.

John Lamb, writing for Supply Chain Standard, said that firms can discover major benefits in this way by uncovering hidden talent boosting workforce loyalty.

He said: "Disabled people make up around 15 per cent of the world's population, so it is not surprising that governments and groups that represent disabled people are putting pressure on employers to do more to accommodate them."

Mr Lamb asserted that employers are expected to make adjustments to their recruitment processes, work arrangements and working environment to accommodate disabilities, which includes the logistics sector.

He claimed that many of the reasonable adjustments that these workers need are low in cost and easy to implement.

Earlier this month, Leslie Taylor McLaughlin, speaking on behalf of WWPC – WorldWide Partnership, told IFW that globalisation is making effective supply chain strategy especially important.
