The security requirements of a supply chain have been highlighted in a Guardian report into the number of counterfeit prescription drugs on the market in developing countries.
It was found by the UK Department for International Development that 70 per cent of drugs on sale in Nigeria and Angola are counterfeit due to the lack of security regarding the various stages of the supply chain.
Such figures represent the value of ensuring a supply chain is not just effective but secure, as without a secure supply chain management system poor quality goods can enter into any business' chain.
Any company hoping to make improvements to their supply chains would be advised to speak to a third-party supply chain management company, which can offer a range of different advice as well as experienced supply chain managers to take a fresh look at a company's organisation.
Improving a supply chain can help ensure buyers have better faith in a product and that fewer consumers may be harmed by potential weak links in the chain itself.
