London bookstore Foyles has announced it is aiming to improve its
supply chain strategy as the company looks towards international expansion.
While stores such as Borders and Waterstone's have suffered during the economic downturn and in the aftermath, Foyles has flourished, opening stores across the UK, and it is now planning to launch overseas bookshops, said chief executive Sam Husain.
He told Publishing Perspectives that the company will need to ensure its supply chain is as smooth as possible before venturing overseas, but it is currently in a good condition, considering the state of many UK industries.
"We have a strong brand and systems that work. The problem is how to manage it with our resources, as well as issues like the supply chain and training," he explained.
Ms Husain said he believes "the way to go" is through franchises and partnerships, adding hat he would be interested in having conversations with "serious parties" who understand Foyles.
In October last year, the company opened a new 'Booktique' store at London's One New Change shopping centre.
