Carbon neutral supply chains 'a possibility'

Operating a carbon neutral supply chain is not impossible, a spokesperson for one major delivery company has said recently.

"The first thing you need to understand about greening a supply chain is that the term 'green' is not specific enough. It has the wrong connotations. This is about saving money and becoming efficient," said Karl Feilder, the delivery company's chief executive, when talking to Business Green.

The issue of 'going green', however, is a pressing one which is becoming more important by the day as awareness of green issues infiltrates buyers' conscious.

"It's about making a lot of small changes," Mr Feilder said.

"By focusing ruthlessly on carbon reduction in all parts of the supply chain we think we can do it."

For smaller and medium sized businesses the changes may be too great to simply make by themselves, and so working with a third party supply chain management company could offer several benefits.

Both fresh ideas and the confidence and know-how to implement them are the attributes given to third party supply chain management companies, which can offer a great deal of benefits to most companies looking for change.
