DHL strikes new supply chain deal

DHL has agreed a new logistics deal with Petroplus worth £30 million over the next five years.

The deal prolongs a continuing partnership between the two firms that has been in place for the last nine years.

Under the terms of the contract, DHL will be responsible for Petroplus's order management and customer services.

It will also handle the movements of bitumen at elevated temperatures to various quarries and manufacturing locations across the UK.

DHL will also introduce a number of efficiency and sustainability initiatives, including mileage and fuel monitoring, in order to improve cost reduction.

Adam Franklin, managing director of energy, environment and technology at DHL Supply Chain, said the firm has already gone to great lengths to ensure best-in-class service for Petroplus.

"In the next term of our relationship we plan to build on our already superior standards and bring in schemes to help the company save money and reduce its environmental impact," he added.

News of the deal comes after DHL last month announced a new contract with retail firm Debenhams that will see it provide distribution and warehousing for stores across the UK and Ireland.
