A new government-backed campaign has been launched aimed at alerting transport planning bosses to the benefits of effective fleet management.
The Van Best Practice scheme seeks to reinforce the message that a good driving for work policy not only keeps employees safer, but also helps improve profits.
Backed by the Driving for Better Business campaign, the new initiative is designed to provide an "essential environment and safety resource" for fleet managers.
Ross Clarkson, marketing director of rental organisation Northgate Vehicle Hire, said safety, the environment and greater fuel efficiency all go "hand-in-hand" for transport bosses.
"Taken together, improved mpg and a lower accident risk mean financial savings for business. In addition, companies see their carbon footprint reduced," he commented.
According to the Freight Transport Association, effective transport planning is currently more important than ever in helping businesses to maintain a competitive edge.
The group is currently running its Transport Manager 2009 roadshow, which aims to highlight the importance of compliance and best practice during the recession.
