Coventry-based Modec, which produces electric delivery vehicles, is joining forces with US truck manufacturer Navistar.
Barack Obama announced the partnership will benefit from a $39 million (£23 million) grant, which is part of the America's efforts to support green auto producers.
Daniel Ustian is the chairman, president and chief executive officer of Navistar and said such motors are a good example of what can happen if businesses and government work together.
"The future is now with this electric vehicle," he said.
"In fact, we already have interested customers, including some of the most respected names in the industry."
Last week, Smiths Electric vehicles which is based in the north-east of England announced a number of hybrid trucks had been delivered to companies in North America.
