Transport planning bosses looking at cost reduction and carbon-cutting measures may find zero-emissions motoring is not as far off as they think, if the comments of one expert are anything to go by.
Calvey Taylor-Haw, managing director of Elektromotive, said the industry is developing quickly as more and more carmakers turn their focus to eco-friendly technologies.
He explained that several government-backed schemes are already in place to increase the feasibility of widespread zero emissions motoring.
Plans are also afoot to install what could become the world's largest recharging infrastructure in preparation for the arrival of mass-produced electric cars, he said.
Mr Taylor-Haw added that Elektromotive is one of a number of companies set to brief MPs on the latest electric vehicle technology later this month - a move that could see development speed up even further.
"Hopefully, this will encourage them to push for more projects across the UK that will see the installation of electric vehicle charging facilities," he commented.
This comes after the Freight Transport Association recently called for greener transport planning to be rewarded with savings, such as lower tolls for vehicle operators.
