Transport planning bosses are being urged to keep abreast of the latest developments as the logistics industry prepares for "a series of major changes".

According to the Freight Transport Association (FTA), the latest developments in vehicle design and fuel technology could play a major part in improving cost reduction and efficiency.

The group is running a series of Fleet Engineer seminars designed to keep transport planning chiefs up to date on such matters, enabling them to cut costs during the recession.

Each session features talks and advice from industry experts in the fields of safety, efficiency and reliability.

Andy Mair, head of engineering policy at the FTA, said the seminars could provide important guidance during a challenging time for many transport operators.

"The industry is on the brink of a series of major changes in the way compliance standards are tested and emissions are reduced through engine technology," he explained.

Mr Mair added that Fleet Engineer would help transport bosses to cope with these alterations, as well as the many other day-to-day challenges they face.

According to IBM's Global Truck 2020 Study, the trucking industry will undergo a major overhaul in the future as developments in fuel efficiency and safety transform the sector.ADNFCR-1654-ID-19451286-ADNFCR
