Healthcare supply chain executives say their key priority is to keep costs down, a new survey has revealed.
The third annual UPS supply chain study in the US, reflecting trends globally, revealed 64 per cent of respondents are "very" or "extremely concerned" about keeping a lid on costs.
It's the third year in a row that managing costs has come out top of the list of concerns, and the percentage of those making it a priority has risen from 55 per cent in 2009.
Bill Hook, vice president of global strategy at UPS Healthcare Logistics, said: "Reform as well as other industry factors are placing unprecedented pressure on healthcare companies and stressing their supply chains. Logistically, healthcare companies will have to re-examine their strategy."
According to a report on LogisticsManager.com, keeping supply chains within budget is also a primary concern for UK businesses, with environmental issues also beginning to feature on their radars.
