Transport and logistic companies could consider more cost reduction strategies, as many are struggling to cope with rising fuel prices.
According to Northampton-based haulage firm EM Rogers, car drivers are feeling the pinch when they are filling up the tanks in their vehicles.
Speaking to the Northampton Chronicle, transport manager Sarah Rogers said people should "imagine what it's like" for hauliers, as they have to fill up tanks with as much as 1,500 litres of fuel.
This, she warned, is placing a significant financial burden on the sector, and could potentially drive some firms out of business.
"It's difficult to pass on costs," commented Ms Rogers, who added that this is a "particularly difficult time" for the industry.
Edmund King, president of the AA, has described the recent fuel price rises as a "bitter pill" for road users in the UK to swallow, particularly in the current climate of job cuts and salary freezes.
