Volvo Trucks technology 'could help improve cost reduction'

Transport planning bosses keen to cut their carbon footprint and improve cost reduction may consider making use of the latest technology from Volvo Trucks.

The company's 370 Volvo VN vehicle comes equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) emissions control technology to help reduce carbon intensity.

As well as producing near-zero emissions, the systems helps improve fuel economy by as much as five per cent, potentially offering big savings for haulage companies.

US-based company Knight Transportation has already ordered 370 Volvo VNs with SCR technology in an effort to reduce expenditure and carbon emissions.

Scott Kress, Volvo Trucks' senior vice-president of sales and marketing, said: "Volvo has invested many years of development in SCR technology and we know it is clearly the best way to reduce emissions while improving fuel economy."

Last month, the manufacturer confirmed plans to increase its production capacity after seeing signs of increased demand for trucks from customers.
