Woolworths streamlines supply chain

Monday, 02/6/2008 05:32
Woolworths has cut its distribution problems by introducing new supply chain management software.

Provided by SAP, the software has reduced costs at the firm by seven figures through reductions in transport and fuel costs and improved planning and productivity.

Processes were confined to being manual before the introduction of the software which has enabled the firm to streamline the operation.

Neale Almond, business systems manager at Woolworths, told SAP's Sapphire conference that many types of software could serve businesses.

"I think it boils down very much to what your business needs," he explained.

"It makes managing your inventory much simpler and easier. Knowing which box is in which cage in which lorry is pretty damned important," Mr Almond added.

According to reports from Silicon.com, Woolworths is planning to roll out the system in a distribution centre in Manchester after the success enjoyed in Bedford and Swindon.
