The public needs to be helped to better understand the contribution that
logistics strategy makes to the UK economy as a whole, an expert has claimed.
Clyde Buntrock, business solutions director at Allport, has told IFW fact that the supply chain industry as grown by nearly 20 per cent between 2003 and 2010.
He said that despite its integral role the sector is one that is rarely in the public consciousness unless it is being criticised.
Mr Buntrock highlighted the fact that customer service and a focus on the consumer experience has been a key driver behind the sector.
He said: "It is this strategic focus that has driven another significant industry transformation over the last decade: the rise of the professional forwarder and the aspiration to control the extended supply chain."
Simon Kaye, founder and chief executive of Jaguar Freight Services, recently told IFW that one key development in
supply chain strategy is the growing importance of security.
