Method Products has announced its new plans to rework its supply chain in order to make some of its suppliers greener.

Method, a cleaning manufacturer based in San Francisco, has announced that some of the company's funds set aside for carbon offset schemes will now go to making its supply chain members more environmentally friendly.

Suppliers that can show Method on-site renewable energy production or energy-saving equipments will be rewarded with financial incentives, according to the company.

"We're not expecting every factory will go out and buy solar panels to cover every inch of roof space," said Drummond Lawson, Method's green consultant.

But there are high hopes from Method for some forms of green measures: "I'm very excited about methane capture… You get a lot of bang for your buck in terms of going after greenhouse gas emissions," Lawson told ClimateBiz.com.

Method's supply chain currently comprises of around 25 sources, and to be able to call its products 'environmentally friendly' can offer large financial rewards from consumers who are, now more than ever, questioning where their products have come from.
