Cashflow is the most acute issue concerning most businesses at present and the supply chain is the area where such problems become apparent.
Without accessible credit or free flowing cash, supply chains will likely grind to a halt, threatening the stability of not just one business but several involved in the chain.
As such, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta) has called upon the government to provide business start-ups in these sectors with £1 billion in accessible funding.
Identifying green technology and digital media as two particularly strong growth areas over the coming years, a Nesta spokesperson said: "We believe that these are areas where long-term trends suggest growth will be particularly high, and in which the UK has distinctive advantages.
"If we are to build an innovative, high-growth economy, we need to ensure we are well positioned in these growth sectors that will define the global economy in decades to come."
Existing businesses looking to find ways of managing their cashflow in order to ensure their suppliers and clients are kept running healthily could contact a third-party supply chain management company.
