Reducing costs was the main talking point at this week’s IGD Supply Chain Summit in London, reports RoadTransport.com.
Guest speakers from the logistics arms of major supermarket as well as supply chain specialists all talked about the issue, but the overriding consensus was that the UK was in a good position with any problems which arise.
David Gordon, director of industry development for IGD, said that Great Britain has one of the most capable supply chains on the planet and that, although more can be done, it leads the way in terms of sustainability.
He added: "We must demonstrate we can be trusted to act in a socially and economical fashion. We have to boost sustainability. But whatever we do, we have to take the shopper with us."
Supermarket chain Morrisons told delegates at the summit that it is doing all it can to drive greater efficiency in it supply chain over the next 12 months.
