Horticulture supply chains under scrutiny

The supply chain linking plant growers and breeders to park managers and contractors was the subject of a seminar this month, according to a Horticultural Week report.

The seminar was held as a result of some links becoming obviously distanced, as park managers were beginning to ask for seeds long since out of date.

Stuart Lowen, who is marketing manager at Ball Colegrave, explained to the audience that he would occasionally get requests for seeds that have now been improved "many times over", the report said.

Information flowing through the supply chain is as important as products, and most supply chains have space for tighter and more efficient flows of information.

As such, any company hoping to maximise their own supply chain should consult a supply chain management company, which can offer both experience and fresh approaches to the design of a supply chain.

With an increasing number of factors now affecting supply chains, such as environmental and ethical practices, supply chain management consultants are becoming more and more vital.
