The economic recovery will be boosted by a strong government focus on infrastructure investment, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) has said.
James Hookham, managing director of policy and communications for the FTA, warned it would be a mistake for transport to be "used as a political football" as talks between the three main parties continue.
"Whoever ends up with the keys to number ten, they must keep their eyes on what really matters to the economy. Transport is a key part of the recovery and it is essential that the next government, whatever its make-up, sees the transport portfolio as a high priority responsibility," he said.
The logistics sector is crucial to the UK economy as it employs eight per cent of the total workforce, contributing approximately £100 billion each year.
Prior to the election, the FTA urged all the political parties to make logistics and transport a priority.
