NHS sets targets for new supply chain

Tuesday, 17/2/2009 12:48
NHS Supply Chain has begun taking steps to ensure its operations are as sustainable and ethical as possible, in a year in which the organisation will also be likely to come under financial pressures.

Sarah Ripley, NHS Supply Chain's sustainability manager, explained in a statement the areas in which the company hopes to improve: "Our challenge as an organisation is to incorporate sustainability into our day to day activities so it becomes the norm and not the exception.

"At NHS Supply Chain, our sustainability plan is set around three key areas: sustainable operations, sustainable procurement, and social and community activities."

The supply chain has become more central to many organisations in past months as a result of both the financial downturn and the growing need for green or ethically-produced goods.

A third-party supply chain management company can help businesses of all sizes ensure they are able to make the most of the savings made from adapting their supply chains.

An outside supply chain management company could also make the most of the green options, as with specialist experience it could offer the most effective change for its clients.
