People transport planning 'should prepare journeys this weekend'

Workers responsible for logistics transport planning over the August bank holiday weekend may want to take note of the following advice.

Derek Turner is the director of network operations at the Highways Agency and explained the government body has removed as many roadworks as possible in time for the last few days of August.

A total of 22 sets have been completed and a further 31 are being put on hold between August 28th and Tuesday 1st.

However, Mr Turner stated the highways and byways are still expected to be busy – especially those around holiday centres, ports and airports.

As there is likely to be a lot of people on the roads who are taking an unfamiliar route, he suggested motorists be extra vigilant.

"You should also check your vehicle's tyres, oil, water and fuel before setting out and allow extra time to plan for breaks to complete your journey safely," stated Mr Turner.

Staff who are working out logistics transport planning for August bank holiday can log on to the Highways Agency website for up-to-date details about the road conditions.
