Skills for Logistics receives new licence to operate

The Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the logistics industry has been awarded a further trademark licence to continue operating following a "rigorous assessment".

Business secretary Lord Mandelson said the employer-led body was successful in its application for a further licence after reaching the required standards.

SSCs are established to give employers the chance to exert influence over the UK's education and skills systems to help ensure they meet the industry's needs.

The assessment, carried out by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, was designed to ensure Skills for Logistics was properly equipped to identify the needs of the sector.

"Employers can be confident that Skills for Logistics has come through a rigorous assessment and will offer employers the highest quality service in meeting their skills needs," Lord Mandelson said.

He added that as the main mechanism by which employers can have their say on the UK's education and training systems, it is "vitally important" that such bodies operate effectively.

Earlier this month, the Freight Transport Association called on the government to support the future of the logistics sector by continuing to invest in UK transport infrastructure and revising the tax regime for commercial vehicles.
